Please bear with me; My computer mouse is broken. This means that I may get fed-up with writing this post due to my misguided mouse. Speaking of mice & bears, I've been participating for the last week in "Pledge to Veg" sponsored by the Compassionate Action for Animals in Minneapolis.
A friend of mine organized the week's events for Duluth, which will commence tomorrow evening with a concert by two of my local faves, Jerree Small & Jamie Ness. However, since I organized this last even, I'm unsure whether or not Jamie will show. Anyhow, one of my favorite songs by my favorite local artist.
So for the last two Minnesota Music Posts, I have lost the entire text of my entry when I have uploaded the song. I guess I need to learn how to VOX again.
I wasn't going to select Trampled by Turtle's "Duluth" as my Minnesota Music song of the week. However, downloading "Nobody Else" from my library was taking forever. So I resorted to posting via Amazon -- but heck, the selection is my love Duluth.
My post accompanying the song was a bout the weather and us Duluthians. As far as I am concerned, our summer started August 10th. I LOVE THE HEAT!!! But it is slightly above average temps, so Duluthins complain. Last week we complained about the rain for Bayfront Blues Fest. For weeks before that we complained about the cold. Our local news conglomerate did a special weather segment last night , saying that yes, until this week our weather has been below average; this week it is slightly above average. I'm a transplant; bring on the heat.
Yet whether your lifetime resident or short-term transplant, we Duluthians will always complain about the weather. Although with my 20 + transplant-years experience, lifers like to say they're "commenting" about the weather.
For some reason, when I go to my blog there is always a linked advertisement at the bottom of the page which says "Caskets that are Purple." I'm unsure why I have not clicked on this link yet, because I am curious, but really hope I'm not in the market for a casket. Would it be bad luck to click on the link?
If I ever put together a grrrl goth band, I will call it "Caskets That Are Purple". Thank you very much, Vox.
Somehow, my b-day post was lost. It was a good post. But now it's Friday. John Hughes, who greatly influenced my life through his movies and use of music, died today. Seriously, he made me want to be a sound designer because music was so entwined in his movies.
Here's my Friday Music Post:
So I've been MIA from VOX over a year now. Let's blame Facebook. I thought of something to write today but am too tired to form the words at the moment. I'll start with baby-steps by reading all the wonderful blogs by my VOX friends.
And I'll post a Minnesota Music Friday post for tomorrow.
I have a costume conundrum. It is one month (minus a day) before Geek Prom. I want to be Princess Leia going to the prom. No, I do not want to go in a Princess Leia costume. I have a pair of awesome buns (that I put on my head) which were made for me a couple years ago when I was a Princess Leia PEZ dispenser for Halloween ( And again was a PL PEZ at the Minnesota PEZ Convention and won third place in a costume contest).
But the PEZ costume is very difficult to move in. So difficult, in fact, that at a Halloween party a couple years ago I asked Geek Prom founder to move my car out of a tight spot. This was a favor gone bad, as he was equally impaired by alcohol as I was mobility impaired; end result was a scratched car. Never let your friends drink & drive. Or drive in PEZ costumes.
Anyway, I don't want to be an imperfect replica of the movie Star Wars Princess Leia and nor do I want to be a mobility impaired PEZ dispenser. I want to be Leia going to the prom. I'm pretty sure they didn't have proms a "Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away".
Or maybe the 80s, when I didn't go to the prom in high school, suffices as a long time ago, but now is the galaxy where a girl with cinnamon rolls on her head goes to the prom.
Dress suggestions are welcomed.
Here's track 4&5 on the "Swing your Rowley: Guilty Pleasures" mix tape.
4). “Can’t Hardly Wait”- The Replacements- Pleased to Meet Me
For those of you who don’t already know, I’m a huge Replacements fan. I’ve put this song on countless mix tapes since the 90s; It’s probably my favorite Replacements song and makes me happy whenever and whatever. The Replacements are my go-to band; their music brought me up through my teens, into my twenties, and I still look to them to say & play what I’m feeling currently (original wrote today ; didn't like the assonance). I often wonder who I would have been without their music.
5).” Impossible Germany” – Wilco- Sky Blue Sky
This whole album rocked my fall; Wilco’s show in Bayfront was superb. I still endlessly repeat this song.
Wow. I miss this toddler. Although I love the ten-year-old version, there is some wonderlust gone from him now. read more
