My son’s father is a liar. Today I’m not writing this out of malicious conviction – I’m just stating a fact. During our four tumultuous years together I feigned ignorance about his lying -- until I found out about an affair he was covering up with lies while living with me and our infant son. That revelation hit my gut/soul/mind like a fist full of fire setting aflame a raging awareness that he was in fact a LYING LIAR!
Today it’s just an amusing and baffling fact. For the past
two months LP’s dad (we’ll call him “sperm donor” or “SP”) has been postponing
his visitations, which are just one overnight a month. This isn’t new, so I
didn’t think much of it. Sperm Donor lives a couple hours north and there was
always an excuse, which on the surface seemed lame but legitimate: He & his
new wife needed to go down the cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) to help her sister
fix-up her house; his wife was going down to the cities for a job interview. So
I commented about the many trips to the cities and reminded him that the
visitations with LP are important to him and need to be on SP’s list of
priorities. So the Sperm Donor agreed to a visitation last weekend and even offered
to drive both ways. They stayed in a hotel in their town, SP stating that they didn't have enough room for the three kids in their three bedroom houses.
A couple of days after LP returned he accidentally mentions
that his dad has moved down to the cities. Poor kid immediately went into “I
let the cat out of the bag” panic. I phone the sperm donor and yes, he is
living in the cities. Since February. I’m still unclear and baffled about the
lies. A source in the know even said that his sister-in-law lives in their small town, not the cities. Part of me wishes that I would have played along with the charade a bit –
had some fun with his lying lies. But then I guess that would make me a lying
liar.
Song note:
This song really has nothing to do with this tale of decption, but more to do with my unhealthy addiction to Paul Westerberg. I'm going through a "Suicaine Gratification" mode at the moment. And it's a Minnesota Music Friday.
Hey faithful listeners (ummm....I know there are at least 2...),
Sorry for the long absence. I thought once "Holes" was done, I'd have all this free time in which to blog. Well, instead, I've been trying to catch-up on all the things that were put aside.
Today the Little Pirate & I are at home because I suspect that he might have lice. ICK,ICK,ICK!! When I called the clinic to make the lice-check appointment, the receptionist actually asked if I'd like to be seen today. No, dumb-ass, I'd like to wait the entire weekend so that my apartment is crawling with the nasty buggers! WTF!
Of course, the last time I thought August had lice he actually had really bad dandruff; I really hope that this is again an overreaction on my part. We're seeing the Dr. at 1:30 p.m. today. In the meantime, I'm itching like crazy.
Anyway, this whole lice thing has me thinking about alien invasions. Lice are like little tiny space invaders; microscopic creatures that can turn a household into chaos. Invadeing homes, feeding off of humans, and you can't even see 'em!
Mr. Jim Richardson, Gonzo Scientist (and Duluthian) explores the question of whether or not life began on earth, or if life is an "Evolution form Space":
Hey all you listeners. I've got a nasty bout of the flu, so I"m writing from my bed, underneath the blankies, with a box of unused tissue and a few used ones beside me.
Today's Minnesota Music Friday tune is inspired by Voxer Dan!!!, who put a different Mason Jennings song on his blog. I love Mason Jennings. I've seen him live several times, but the first time is still the most memorable. It was at the Tap Room in Duluth on my 30th Birthday, and the place was practically empty except for me & my friends. That's where I first heard this song named for, but not about, my town.
This week has kicked my ass. I'm overtired from being overworked and over "play"ed. But since a lovely VOXer has been promoting Minnesota Music Fridays, I want to & must upload today's tune before I sleep. I could write on & on about The Suburbs and how they shaped my adolescence, but unfortunately I can't tonight. Perhaps I will add to this post at a later date.
For now, here's a song suited to my mood off the Viva! Suburbs! album, which is a recording of their 1993 reunion show at First Ave. I was fortunate enough to be at this show; actually I recollect two shows and believe I was at both. Enjoy!
Since it's the last Friday of 2006, I'm thinking that this would be a good time to retire my "Minnesota Music Friday" posts. It's not that I'll ever run out of music to post, because our state holds a plethora of great tunes just waiting to be uploaded, shared and discovered by others.
It's more like I feel the posts are not accomplishing all that I hoped. The purpose of Minnesota Music Fridays is to share great tunes by known and unknown Minnesotans in the hope that others would discover, or simply enjoy, the great, underappreciated music from this region. My hope was that people would comment --- we would discuss the songs & their artists.
Instead I feel like I'm sending the tunes into dead air. If you'd like me to keep sharing my state's great songs, please comment. Otherwise, Minnesota Music Fridays will close with a tune by The State Champs:
P.S. This won't be the end of posting music I like; it just won't be a regular blog feature.
Last weekend, there was an abundance of live music in Duluth to raise funds for a very sick little girl, Peal Swanson:
Twenty-four acts contributed songs for the young & old on the album Treasure Chest. The album is delightful, all proceeds go to Pearl, and you should buy it for yourself and as a gift for other music lovers.
Here's Little Black Books singing one of my childhood favorites, Camp Grenada:
